How to install Ubuntu Dapper Drake

Before reading this post i reqest you to read my previous post “Ubuntu Dapper Drake is easier to install than windows xp”.

In this post i presented a clear process of installing Ubuntu Dapper Drake with screanshot. You’ll really enjoy installing the new release of Ubuntu i.e. Dapper Drake. You can chat, listen songs, browse & you can do more while installing itself. With the few mouse clicks you can finish installing Ubuntu. So, lets start…

First thing, get a Installation CD ( cum Live CD ) of ubuntu, put this CD in the CD drive and turn on or restart your computer. The CD will be automatically boot & you’ll get a boot menu like shown below…

select Start or install Ubuntu Option from the boot menu and press Enter. The Ubuntu will boot & it takes some time. Here is a screenshot…

booting from Live CD

After booting you ‘ll see a desktop having install icon…

double click the install icon, you should get this as shown below…

select English & click Forward button, next you will be asked about your location…

select Calcutta & click Forward button…

Select Keyboard layout as American English , click Forward button…

Next, you will be asked about your full name , username, password and computer name.

Next step, this step is very crucial one. so be carefull here. As you can see the below screenshot, i have two hard disks(80 GB & 40 GB one) . Select Manually edit partition table option for safe. Click Forward…

You can see the partitions of my Hard Disk 1 (80 GB one) . I want to install Ubuntu at the last partition ( as you can see the below screenshot the last box – blue one ). So, i deleted the last partition ( you can delete a partition by right clicking on the partition & select delete ). I have 10 GB left (Free Space).

before deleting…

After deleting…

Lets say you have 10 GB of free space, you should create 2 partitions , one for swap partition & second for ext3 partition.

creating swap partition…

Click New button , and give the size for the swap partition ( If you have 128 MB RAM give 250 MB , for 256 MB give 500 MB, for 512 MB give 900 MB ) . Select Filesystem as linux-swap. Click Add.

After creating swap partition…

creating ext3 partition…

Click New button, leave New Size as Maximum size ( I have 8.88 GB (9101 MB) remaining free space, so i allocated it for ext3 ), select create as Logical Partition, Filesystem as ext3 (as shown below), Click Add button.

After Creating ext3 partition…

Then Click Forward button…

Click Apply.

You will be asked to specify mount points, just leave it (default) , click forward.

Ready to install…

Installation Starts…

Have you ever chat with your friends while installing operating system…

Hey Abhinay, it would be very nice if you would keep a section on how to use the installation/live cd to fix a corrupted grub loader. Because even if someone installed this, if they later install windows, their grub loader might be corrupted and they might not have any idea what happened to their ubuntu OS.
